She is forced to take some time off in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina with her little sister, Libby. Libby, who is having problems of her own, wants to see what life is like in the small towns from her favorite romance novel.  Nora is constantly bumping into Charlie Lastra, a testy and brilliant editor who she had a very confrontational lunch with a couple of years earlier. Genre: General Fiction Publisher: St. Martin’s Press Pub. Date: May 15, 2018 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Read if you like: Family Secrets Quirky sisters Working hard to overcome a serious obstacle Unlikely romance Close-knit father-daughter Ok, everyone! I found my new auto-buy author! This was the first book I have read by Katherine Center & I loved absolutely everything from beginning to end.  It centers around Margaret Jacobsen who is living this seemingly perfect life when after one incident, everything changes.  You are pulled right in & you immediately feel invested in the characters. I felt every possible emotion you could name throughout the book & I loved the relationship between the characters, particularly Maggie & her sister, Kit.  As the story unfurls, and secrets are revealed, you can’t help but love each person in the story even more. I would read this book again & again! I can’t wait to pick up Center’s other novels because this was a 5-star for me!...

From Scratch by Tembi Locke: BOOK REVIEW

Image
Genre: Memoir Pub. Date: April 30, 2019 Publisher: Simon & Schuster Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Read if you like: Love stories Overcoming hardships Love at First Sight Books that talk about cooking/food I have been waiting to write this review because I am not sure I can do this book justice. From Scratch is a memoir based on the lives of Tembi and Saro who meet in Italy and fall in love. They are from two different worlds and find that Saro’s family does not want to accept Tembi into their lives.  This is a story about the purest love between a husband and wife and how their love conquered everything even death. I have never read about a love as beautiful as Tembi and Saro’s. It was so inspiring and a joy to read.  Tembi’s writing is some of the most beautiful I have ever read. Cooking and food play pivotal roles in this book and she uses them to describe her feelings and experiences. She takes her readers on a journey from Florence, to California, to Sicily where she shows her daughte...

In the Orchard by Eliza Minot: BOOK REVIEW

Image
First, I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for this Kindle ARC in exchange for my honest review. Genre: General Fiction Pub. Date: April 25, 2023 Rating: 🌟🌟🌟 Read if you like: -Time jumps -beautiful imagery -books about family life -books that take place over the course of 24 hours This book is a day in the life of Maisie Moore, a mother of four children, who is concerned about finances and getting to know the world around her. There were many things about the writing which I enjoyed, in particular the author’s ability to paint a vivid picture for the reader. There is one scene that comes to mind where Minot’s descriptions are so clear that I actually felt like I was Maisie as a little girl, sitting on her mother’s sick bed. It was touching images like this that captured my attention. Overall, I was not completely enthralled with this book. I felt like there needed to be more of a plot. Maisie’s thoughts are interesting and completely on point in a mother’s mind. However, so...

Beyond Closed Doors by B.A. Paris: BOOK REVIEW

Image
Genre: Psychological Thriller    Publish Date: August 9th, 2016 Rating: 4.5 Stars   If you are looking for the perfect, can’t-put-it-down thriller then look no further! Behind Closed Doors, which is a debut novel, is the perfect combination of mystery, thriller, and nonstop twists. I don’t want to give too much away but this book was written really well. Just when you think you know what is going to happen, the story changes. And you do NOT want to miss the ending! That being said this book had me jumping at every sound, looking over my shoulder, & desperately needing to know the ending. Whew! What a ride! If you liked reading The Silent  Patient, you will love this book!
