I have been waiting to write this review because I am not sure I can do this book justice. From Scratch is a memoir based on the lives of Tembi and Saro who meet in Italy and fall in love. They are from two different worlds and find that Saro’s family does not want to accept Tembi into their lives.

This is a story about the purest love between a husband and wife and how their love conquered everything even death. I have never read about a love as beautiful as Tembi and Saro’s. It was so inspiring and a joy to read.

Tembi’s writing is some of the most beautiful I have ever read. Cooking and food play pivotal roles in this book and she uses them to describe her feelings and experiences. She takes her readers on a journey from Florence, to California, to Sicily where she shows her daughter, Zoela, that there is life after death and love can heal all wounds.

I am giving this book 5 stars because it was just that good, plus it includes 16 recipes from Tembi and Saro's culinary adventures. Be sure to read with a box of tissues!
